Vinnytsia Castle

Vinnytsia Castle is a stone fortress located on elevated ground near the Southern Bug River with defensive walls and watchtowers positioned at key points. The structure spans multiple areas with distinct elements that reveal different construction periods.

Lithuanian Duke Fyodor Koriatovych founded the fortress in the 14th century as a defensive structure against frequent Tatar raids in the area. The fortification later played a significant role in military operations during the 17th century.

The castle displays construction styles shaped by Lithuanian and Ukrainian craftsmanship traditions that reflect the region's multicultural past.

The castle is accessible by public transportation from the city center, and guided tours are offered in multiple languages. It is advisable to check opening times beforehand and wear comfortable shoes since the grounds are quite steep.

The castle served as a command center for Cossack leader Ivan Bohun during the 17th century in his successful campaigns against Polish forces. This military significance made it a key location in regional power struggles.
