Zacharovany Krai National Nature Park, National nature park in Zakarpattia Oblast, Ukraine
Zacharovany Krai National Nature Park is a large protected area in the Carpathian region covering dense evergreen forests, glacial lakes, peat bogs, and alpine meadows. The landscape combines different terrain types that together provide habitat for numerous plant and animal species.
The park was established in 2009 as part of Ukraine's effort to protect more of its natural regions. Its creation marked an important moment in safeguarding these diverse mountain landscapes.
Scattered wooden churches and chapels throughout the region reveal the local communities' building traditions across different centuries. These structures fit naturally into the landscape and show how people have long lived within these mountains.
Marked trails run through different landscape sections and allow visitors to choose walks based on their interests and fitness level. The best time to visit is from May through October when access is easiest.
The park is home to over 1,000 plant species, including around 35 varieties found nowhere else in the Carpathians. These rare plants are scattered throughout forests and meadows across the entire area.
