Olha Kobylyanska Theatre, Neo-baroque theatre in Chernivtsi, Ukraine
The Olha Kobylyanska Theatre is a neo-baroque opera house in Chernivtsi with an ornate facade. The interior features white and gold stucco decorations, while the exterior displays high relief sculptures of Greek mythology and busts of classical composers along its walls.
The building was constructed between 1903 and 1905 by Viennese architects Fellner and Helmer and was originally named after German poet Friedrich Schiller. It was later renamed to honor Ukrainian writer Olha Kobylyanska.
The building serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors come together for opera performances, theatrical productions, and concerts. The stage remains an active center for artistic expression in the Bukovina region.
The venue is located at Theatre Square 1 in central Chernivtsi and is easily accessible from the city center. Visitors can appreciate the original interior details and architectural features by taking time to walk through the building.
The building is part of a collection of around forty theatres across Europe designed by Fellner and Helmer. Similar structures by these architects can be found in Vienna and Odessa, showing how their style spread across the region.
