Church of St. Paraskeva Serbian, Chernivtsi, Orthodox church building in Chernivtsi, Ukraine.
The Church of St. Paraskeva is a stone church in central Chernivtsi built in a pseudo-Romanesque style during the 19th century. It stands on a raised plot with a small courtyard, and its facade features rounded arches and a solid entrance portal.
A wooden church stood on this site from 1745 and served partly as a customs point due to its position along a key city route. It was replaced by the current stone building starting in 1844, a construction that took nearly two decades to complete.
The church grounds reflect how the Orthodox community gathers here for worship and important occasions that matter to local life. The building represents a focal point for faith and tradition in the neighborhood.
The church sits in the city center and is easy to reach on foot from the surrounding streets. Visitors are expected to dress modestly, and coming outside of service hours gives a quieter chance to look around inside.
During the Soviet period the building was turned into a chess club, and the original wall paintings that decorated the interior were removed at that time. What visitors see on the walls today reflects that interruption rather than the church's original appearance.
