St. Nicholas Cathedral

St. Nicholas Cathedral is a church building in the center of Chernivtsi featuring tall spires, red brick walls, and multiple arched windows arranged in traditional Orthodox architectural patterns. The interior contains a four-tiered carved iconostasis and religious wall paintings that create the main focus of the worship space.

The building was originally constructed as a Catholic church in 1910 and underwent various transformations throughout the 20th century. In the 1990s it became part of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, where it has served as the cathedral for the local Orthodox community.

The cathedral is named after Saint Nicholas and serves as a central gathering place for the Orthodox community in the city. Visitors encounter religious practices and decorations that reflect the spiritual traditions of the local faithful.

Daily religious services take place here, particularly in the early morning and on Sundays. Visitors should wear modest clothing and respect ongoing worship when inside the building.

This cathedral houses sacred relics including icons containing fragments of Saint Macarius and Saint Barbara. These relics make the building a destination for believers who venerate such holy remains.
