Pyrohiv, Folk architecture museum in Holosiivskyi District, Kyiv, Ukraine.

Pyrohiv is an open-air museum with over 300 traditional buildings and structures from different parts of Ukraine, arranged across a large area in Kyiv. The buildings display different architectural styles and living arrangements, showing how people historically built and lived in various regions.

The museum was established in 1969 to collect and preserve traditional buildings from different Ukrainian regions. Many of these houses were moved from their original locations to the site and reconstructed, documenting the architectural diversity of the country.

The place reflects the craft traditions of different Ukrainian regions, with workshops and displays that show how people once lived and worked. Visitors can observe traditional techniques in practice and understand how this old way of life shaped daily routines across various parts of the country.

The site is very large and requires considerable time to explore, so visitors should plan for several hours and wear comfortable shoes. There are various paths through the museum, and it helps to pick up a map for orientation to avoid getting lost.

A special section of the museum is Windmill Hill, where several historical windmills from different Ukrainian areas have been reconstructed. These working or partly restored mills showcase a nearly forgotten technology that was once vital to food production in many villages.
