Green Theatre is an open-air venue on Parkova Road in Kyiv built into the slopes of the Dnieper River, using the natural hillside as tiered seating. The stage sits within a natural amphitheater framed by the riverbanks and surrounding terrain.
The theatre was built in 1949 on land that once held military fortifications. Its design incorporates surviving sections of 19th-century casemate walls originally part of the New Pechersk fortress.
The theatre serves as a popular outdoor gathering place where Kyiv residents experience performances set against the natural landscape. Visitors settle into the sloped seating and watch shows framed by the river surroundings.
The location on Parkova Road offers straightforward access via public transport and sits near many cafés and restaurants. Visitors should expect hillside seating that may require climbing stairs and navigating sloped ground.
Two fortress walls were cleverly integrated into the structure. An upper section once guarded the Chain Bridge, while a lower semicircular wall originally served a former water tower.
