Church of Virgin Mary

The Church of Virgin Mary is a Baroque building with limestone walls, a central dome, and a reconstructed bell tower in the main square of Ivano-Frankivsk. The interior houses religious paintings, sculptures, and other art collections that are displayed as a museum today.

The building was constructed in the 1660s by Andrzej Potocki and initially served as a collegiate church and burial place for a Polish aristocratic family. After a fire in 1882, the interior was restored and the structure was later converted into a museum.

The building now displays works by local artists and religious artworks that reflect the region's artistic traditions. Visitors can walk through the rooms and experience how this former church serves as a cultural space for viewing art.

The museum presents regular exhibitions featuring religious art, regional paintings, and ancient books along with classical music concerts throughout the year. Visitors should plan to spend at least one to two hours exploring the collections, especially when concerts are scheduled.

After a fire in 1882, artist Erazm-Rudolf Fabianski restored the interior frescoes, which remain preserved within the building to this day. His work forms an important part of the visual heritage that visitors can observe in the rooms.
