Wakiso District

Wakiso District is an administrative division in Uganda's Central Region that partially surrounds the capital city of Kampala. It comprises two counties, Kyadondo and Busiro, with several towns serving as local governance centers.

The district was established as an administrative unit to organize the growing area surrounding Kampala. Its boundaries have shifted over time to reflect the region's expansion and changing governance needs.

The district maintains strong ties to the Buganda Kingdom, with traditional leadership deeply woven into local governance. Local communities in Kyadondo and Busiro counties continue to honor customary practices that shape daily life.

The district has several administrative centers, with Wakiso Town serving as the main headquarters for local services. Access is straightforward since the area surrounds Kampala and has multiple connecting roads.

The area is home to the Uganda Wildlife Education Center and Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary. These sites provide visitors with opportunities to learn about local wildlife conservation efforts.
