Namirembe Cathedral

Namirembe Cathedral is an Anglican church on a hilltop overlooking Kampala, featuring red brick walls, a large dome, and stained glass windows. The building sits on elevated ground and commands views across the city from above.

The current building was completed in 1919 and is the fifth version of this cathedral after previous structures were destroyed by natural disasters and structural problems. The long process of rebuilding shows the community's resilience.

Services are held in English and Luganda, showing how Anglican traditions blend with local Ugandan religious practices. The congregation uses both languages regularly, reflecting the religious identity of the region.

Access to the grounds is available, and visitors can attend worship services held at various times in the morning. It is best to wear appropriate clothing and respect church etiquette.

The building houses an organ dating to 1931 that underwent extensive restoration from 1999 to 2007 after surviving decades of instability. This instrument is a significant feature of the site's musical tradition.
