Liverpool John Lennon Airport, International airport in Speke, England
Liverpool John Lennon Airport is an international airport in Speke, England, with one passenger terminal and three maintenance hangars. The runway stretches 2,286 meters and serves connections to European destinations plus some domestic routes.
Operations began in 1933 as Speke Airport and served as a Royal Air Force base during World War II. After the war ended, the facility returned to civilian air traffic and received its current name in 2001.
The airport carries the name of a Beatles member, whose traces appear in artwork and photos throughout the terminal. Travelers discover a connection between air travel and the city's musical past, which remains present in daily operations.
Bus lines connect the terminal regularly with the city center, while marked areas for taxis and private cars are available. Arrivals and departures concentrate in one compact building, which is also accessible for people with reduced mobility.
The original 1930s terminal building now stands as a hotel beside the modern facility and preserves its Art Deco facade. Guests can sleep in rooms that once were departure halls and waiting areas.
