Halton, Administrative division in North West England, United Kingdom.

Halton is an administrative area in North West England that encompasses the towns of Runcorn and Widnes along with six civil parishes between Liverpool and Manchester. The region is crossed by the Manchester Ship Canal and River Mersey, which serve as important transportation corridors.

The area takes its name from the medieval Barony of Halton, which held lands on both sides of the River Mersey. Since 1998, the Halton Borough Council has served as both district and county authority, managing services for the population.

The area maintains sister city relationships with towns across Germany, Czech Republic, Portugal, and China that shape local connections. These partnerships enable cultural exchange and joint initiatives among communities.

Multiple railway stations connect the area with surrounding regions, making travel straightforward. This good transport network makes it easy to explore the two main towns and smaller communities.

The area operates with a dual administrative role that allows it to provide services across two governance levels simultaneously. This uncommon setup enables integrated management of local services without separate district boundaries.
