Liberty Stadium, Football stadium in Landore, Swansea, Wales
The Liberty Stadium is a football ground in Landore, a district of Swansea in Wales, built on a rectangular plot near the River Tawe. The venue consists of four separate stands with continuous roofing, with the west and east sides rising slightly higher than the shorter north and south sections.
The ground opened in July 2005 on the former site of Morfa Athletics Stadium to provide Swansea City with a larger and more modern home. Before this, the club played for almost a century at Vetch Field, which had become too small for the team's development.
The stadium takes its name from the Liberty retail business that purchased naming rights until 2016, helping fund the construction of this new venue. Today the ground serves as home to Swansea City, with supporters gathering mainly in the North Stand to cheer on their side during matches.
The site lies about 2 kilometers north of Swansea city center and can be reached on foot, by bus, or by car. Parking areas are available around the ground, and turnstiles at each stand side allow quick entry into the seating areas.
Below the grass run numerous drainage pipes from east to west that connect to two main collectors, ensuring good playing conditions even in heavy rain. This engineering helped the pitch remain in solid condition during years of shared use by both football and rugby teams.
