Ramsgate

Ramsgate is a coastal town in Thanet on the southeast coast of England, featuring a historic harbor with hundreds of berths. The promenade runs along the cliffs and provides access to several beaches with fine sand.

The bay served as anchorage for fishing boats during medieval times, before the harbor was expanded in the 18th century. Royal status dates to the early 19th century when King George IV came ashore here.

The maritime heritage shapes daily life through boat trips and trade around the moorings. Many houses in the old town show Georgian architectural elements with symmetrical facades and tall windows.

The train station sits close to the town center and allows connections toward London within a few minutes walk. Walks along the cliffs offer wide views of the sea, though you should wear sturdy shoes when it is windy.

The tunnel passages beneath the town were dug during the Second World War and offered shelter to thousands of residents during bombing raids. Today parts of this underground facility are open to visitors and show life below ground during the war years.
