Grosvenor Bridge, Railway bridge in Wandsworth, London, England
Grosvenor Bridge is a railway crossing over the Thames between Chelsea Bridge and Vauxhall Bridge, built from four steel arches. It spans approximately 283 meters in length with a width of 54 meters.
The bridge opened in 1860 as Victoria Railway Bridge, becoming the first railway crossing of the Thames in central London. Between 1963 and 1967, it underwent reconstruction while keeping the original pier foundations.
The bridge links residential areas across the Thames, and people see it as part of their daily commute rather than a landmark. The constant rumble of passing trains has become part of the local soundscape.
The bridge is best viewed from the adjacent footpaths on both riverbanks. Visit during daylight hours for the clearest views of the structure and passing trains.
The bridge carries ten railway tracks into Victoria Station and handles hundreds of train movements each day. This makes it one of the busiest railway crossings of the Thames in London.
