Blavatnik School of Government, Higher education institution in Oxford, United Kingdom
The Blavatnik School of Government is a graduate school in Oxford housed in a distinctive round glass building in the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter. The structure, designed by Herzog & de Meuron, contains teaching spaces, offices, and research facilities for Master and doctoral-level study in public policy and governance.
The school was established in 2010 through a major financial gift and began admitting students two years later. Since then, it has grown into a place where people from around the world study questions about how governments work and policy is made.
The school brings together students and faculty from over 120 countries who meet daily to discuss how governments work across different cultures and regions. This global mix shapes daily conversations and the way people interact inside the building.
The building sits in central Oxford and is visible from public areas, with straightforward pathways leading there from the city center. Keep in mind this is an active workplace, so access to certain areas may be limited depending on the time of day or events happening inside.
The interior features a central forum where spiral staircases connect all floors, naturally bringing people together throughout the day. This open design encourages chance meetings between students, staff, and visiting practitioners from around the world.
