Ballymoney, Market town and civil parish in County Antrim, Northern Ireland
Ballymoney is a market town and civil parish in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It sits beside a tributary of the River Bann and spreads across rolling farmland between two larger neighboring settlements.
The town grew around a marketplace established in 1775 that became the center of public life. An earlier church from 1637, built by Sir Randall MacDonnell, shows the settlement's earlier roots.
The Ballymoney Drama Festival, established in 1933, continues the theatrical traditions alongside the annual Ballymoney agricultural show running since 1902.
The town has good road connections to larger cities like Belfast, Derry, and other places across Northern Ireland. A railway station links it to the regional transport network, making it easy to reach neighboring areas.
The McKinley family came from this region, connecting the small town to the American presidency. James McKinley, grandfather of President William McKinley, had his roots here before emigrating to the United States.
