Macomb County, County in southeastern Michigan, United States.
Macomb County is a county in southeastern Michigan that stretches along the Lake St. Clair shoreline and includes several cities, suburbs, and rural townships. The territory borders the lake to the east and connects urban centers with residential areas and waterfront zones.
Michigan organized this territory in 1818 and named it after Alexander Macomb Jr., an officer from the War of 1812. The region grew into an industrial center during the 20th century as automobile manufacturing and shipbuilding expanded.
Residents gather in waterfront parks and marinas along the Lake St. Clair shoreline for weekend recreation and boating activities. Local festivals and farmers markets bring neighborhoods together throughout the warmer months.
Mount Clemens serves as the administrative center, and major highways like I-94 and I-696 link most communities. Travelers can follow the coastal roads along the lake to reach different towns and recreation areas.
The territory holds more than 25 miles (40 kilometers) of Lake St. Clair shoreline, offering numerous small harbors and access to the Seaway system. Some of these harbors sit in former wetlands that were drained during the 19th century.
