Selfridge Military Air Museum is located on an active air base and displays restored aircraft and helicopters outdoors along with vehicles on the grounds. Inside, smaller exhibits show engines, cockpits, and uniforms from various aircraft.
The museum was founded in 1975 by Colonel Robert A. Stone at Selfridge Air National Guard Base near Mount Clemens. In 2000 it was moved slightly to make room for a new fence, and the Michigan Transit Museum ran train trips to it that same year. In October 2021 the museum announced plans for a new education center, and it later began planning a perimeter road for the base and public access to the museum.
The collection shows military objects from different periods of American aviation history. Visitors can see how aircraft technology and equipment changed over the decades.
Visitors must present a valid driver's license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance before entering, since the museum is located on military grounds. It's helpful to have these documents ready and check access rules beforehand.
