Hoboken, Urban destination in Hudson County, United States
Hoboken is a city in Hudson County, New Jersey, that sits along the western shore of the Hudson River and offers a direct view of the Manhattan skyline across the water. The built-up area includes residential blocks with low-rise and mid-rise buildings, commercial streets, and several waterfront parks.
The city incorporated in 1855 and grew from a port and industrial center into a residential area throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Factories and warehouses along the riverfront were gradually converted into housing and public spaces over time.
The Hoboken Historical Museum preserves local heritage through exhibitions, while the annual Artists' Studio Tour displays works from more than 100 participating creators.
PATH trains from Hoboken Terminal, ferries, and bus routes connect the city with Manhattan and other parts of New Jersey within minutes. The waterfront paths and parks remain accessible in most weather and provide walking routes with river views.
Elysian Fields hosted the first recorded baseball game under modern rules in 1846, when two organized teams played each other on the grounds. Today a marker near the former playing field recalls this early chapter of American sports.
