Knoxville

Knoxville is a city in Tennessee along the Tennessee River that spreads across the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, mixing urban neighborhoods with nearby natural areas. Over 80 kilometers of trails run through parks and along waterways, linking downtown streets with wooded hills and riverside stretches.

The city was founded in 1786 and named after Henry Knox, the first United States Secretary of War. It served as the original capital of Tennessee until 1819, when the government moved to another location.

The Tennessee Theatre and Clarence Brown Theatre host performances throughout the season, while Market Square regularly fills with outdoor concerts, festivals, and neighborhood gatherings. Local breweries along the Knoxville Ale Trail draw both residents and travelers who stop by taprooms to sample regional beers and spend time with friends.

The downtown area includes over 90 restaurants and local shops where you can orient yourself and spend an afternoon browsing or eating. The Knoxville Ale Trail connects several breweries across the urban area, offering a route for those interested in visiting local taprooms.

The Sunsphere was built for the 1982 World's Fair and rises 81 meters (266 feet) tall, with an observation deck perched at the top above the city. From up there, you can look out across rooftops and surrounding hills, a perspective that few visitors seek out today.
