Brooke County

Brooke County is a county in the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia along the Ohio River. The landscape features rolling hills, river valleys, and small rural communities spread across the territory.

The county was established in 1797 from parts of Ohio County and originally belonged to Virginia. It became part of West Virginia when the state separated from Virginia in 1863.

The Grimes Golden apple variety was first discovered here on a farm and became an important agricultural contribution. This heirloom variety later spread to orchards across the country.
