Fentress County, Administrative county in eastern Tennessee, US
Fentress County spreads across the Cumberland Plateau region with valleys, forests, and natural rock formations throughout its 499 square miles territory.
Established in 1823, Fentress County takes its name from James Fentress, a politician who advocated for creating the county from parts of Morgan and Overton.
The county maintains strong connections to Mark Twain through his father John Clemens, who served as the first circuit court clerk in Jamestown.
Visitors access the county via U.S. Route 127, which runs north-south through Jamestown and connects to major regional destinations in Tennessee and Kentucky.
The county features numerous natural springs, including the preserved historic spring in Mark Twain City Park near the Jamestown courthouse.
