Sgt. Alvin C. York State Historic Park, Tennessee state park and National Historic Landmark in Fentress County, United States.
Sgt. Alvin C. York State Historic Park is a protected area in Fentress County in eastern Tennessee that preserves the former farmland and residence of a war veteran. The property stretches along the Wolf River and includes several restored buildings in Colonial Revival style as well as a working mill.
After his service in France in October 1918, the soldier returned to Tennessee and received the property as recognition from a civic group. The farm was later taken over by the state and converted into a public park with an educational mission.
The gristmill along the Wolf River follows traditional grain processing methods and displays tools from the first half of the 20th century. The small post office and general store give insight into life in a rural Appalachian community during that era.
The paths through the grounds are mostly paved and lead to individual buildings, though some areas feature uneven terrain. A visit typically takes one to two hours, depending on how much time is spent in the exhibition rooms.
The residence was completed in just three months while the future occupant was still attending events in New York. The original furnishings of the house came largely from donations and gifts in kind from citizens in the region.
