Austin Peay State University is a public higher education institution in Clarksville, Tennessee, spreading across a grounds that includes lecture halls, student housing, and athletic facilities. The institution is organized into six colleges and two schools that support teaching and research programs.
The institution began in 1927 as Austin Peay Normal School, a teacher training college for the region. Full university status followed in 1967 through Tennessee state law.
The university takes its team name „Governors
The university offers degree programs at undergraduate and graduate levels both on campus and through online formats. Access is via public roads, and visitors will find parking areas and directional signs throughout the grounds.
A stone building from 1845, known as the Castle Building, stands on the grounds and was erected more than 80 years before the institution was founded. The structure originally served other purposes before becoming part of the campus.
