East Haven, Town in New Haven County, Connecticut

East Haven extends along Long Island Sound with tidal marshes and a coastal plain covering 12 square miles of Connecticut territory.

Originally called Iron Works Village due to its 1655 furnace for processing bog iron ore, East Haven separated from New Haven and incorporated in 1785.

The population includes a substantial Italian heritage community and growing Ecuadorian residents, creating a diverse mix of traditions and celebrations.

The town provides numerous municipal services through an online portal, including permit applications, tax payments, and community program registration.

The Shore Line Trolley Museum maintains a collection of electric railway cars, documenting the evolution of public transportation in the region.
