Milford, Commercial hub in Sussex and Kent Counties, Delaware

Milford is a city that spans across the Mispillion River valley, blending residential neighborhoods, business districts, and agricultural lands into a functional layout. The town center supports local commerce while surrounding areas maintain a mix of developed and open spaces.

The settlement was founded in 1680 when Henry Bowan established himself at the Saw Mill Range, creating the foundation for local mill operations. Water power from the Mispillion River made the area an early industrial center of the region.

The Mispillion Art League, Milford Museum, and Milford Public Library maintain exhibitions and collections that document the city's development through different periods.

The Bayhealth Sussex Campus provides medical services to residents, while DART First State operates regular bus connections across the region. The city is easy to navigate, with clear streets and good access to shops and services throughout.

The city has produced seven Delaware state governors, including Ruth Ann Minner, which is remarkable for a community of this size. This connection to state leadership gives the city an unexpected political role in regional history.
