Southaven

Southaven is a city in DeSoto County in northern Mississippi, located near the Tennessee border. Residential neighborhoods alternate with shopping centers and office parks along major roads that cross the community.

Kemmons Wilson began developing residential subdivisions in the 1970s south of Memphis. The community incorporated as a city in April 1980 after settlements expanded quickly.

The DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven hosts regular sports events, including games of the Mississippi RiverKings from the Central Hockey League.

Travelers reach the city via roads coming south from Memphis, passing through residential and commercial areas. Shopping and dining options line the main corridors, often with parking lots in front of each building.

Baptist Hospital-DeSoto added an eleven-story tower in 2006, changing the skyline in a mostly low-rise area. The medical facility brought many health services to the region and shaped how the community grew afterward.
