The Elvis Presley House is a single-story ranch home with white walls in a residential neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee. The building contains four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and sits on a plot along a quiet street in the eastern part of the city.
Elvis Presley bought the house in March 1956 and lived there with his parents before moving to Graceland thirteen months later. The building received National Register of Historic Places status in March 2006 and is maintained by the Mike Curb Institute at Rhodes College.
The residence marked the period when Heartbreak Hotel reached number one, leading to constant gatherings of fans and photographers outside the property.
The house sits in a residential neighborhood in eastern Memphis and is visible from the street. Access is through public roads that connect the area to the rest of the city.
The property had the largest private swimming pool in Memphis in 1956, though it was removed fifty years later during renovations. The pool area was a frequently mentioned feature of the home among visitors and neighbors at the time.
