Lichterman Nature Center

Lichterman Nature Center is a certified arboretum spanning 65 acres in East Memphis with three distinct ecological zones including a lake, meadow, and forest. These areas are connected by trails that wind through the property and allow visitors to move between different habitats.

The center became integrated into the Pink Palace Family of Museums, which expanded its role in environmental education and wildlife conservation in Memphis. This connection established it as a major facility for nature programs in the region.

The pavilion and visitor center serve as gathering spaces where people learn about native wildlife and plants through displays and programs. These spaces reflect how the community values environmental education and nature preservation in their region.

The grounds are easily walkable and visitors should bring comfortable shoes and water to stay hydrated during their visit. Early mornings and late afternoons are ideal times to spot wildlife and enjoy the natural setting more fully.

The Backyard Wildlife Center houses native reptiles and amphibians that show visitors the animals living in the Memphis area. An active greenhouse supports annual plant sales that promote local gardening and growing practices.
