Shelby Farms

Shelby Farms is a large urban park near Memphis with two lakes, open meadows, and wooded areas spread across thousands of acres. The landscape provides space for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and water activities along numerous trails and waterways.

The park was created from farmland that was converted to public recreation space starting in the 1970s. This transformation established it as one of the largest urban parks in North America.

The park maintains a buffalo herd introduced in the late 1980s and serves as a habitat for over 300 bird species, from hummingbirds to raptors.

Visitors can rent bikes and boats at service stations throughout the park to explore the trails and water areas. There are also zones for horseback riding, picnicking, and relaxing among trees and open spaces.
