Oaklawn Garden, Botanical garden in Germantown, Tennessee, United States.
Oaklawn Garden is a botanical garden in Germantown that spreads over a large property and displays a wide variety of plant species. Alongside daffodils, azaleas, and native flowers, the grounds feature extensive collections of oaks, birches, and native trees.
The property was established in 1854 and initially belonged to William Carter across a large expanse of land. In 1918, Fritz Hussy and Mamie Cloyes took over the estate and began transforming it into its current form.
The site displays local artifacts from different periods, including vehicles and railway cars that reflect the region's past. These objects give visitors a sense of how people lived in the area over time.
The garden is free to visit and welcomes guests to walk through the plant collections and exhibitions at their own pace. The site accepts donations to help support upkeep and improvements to the grounds.
The grounds contain roughly 300 varieties of a single flowering plant grown across two acres, representing a collection tradition that started in 1924. This specialized gathering makes the garden particularly interesting for people who appreciate that plant group.
