Barclays Center, Sports arena in Brooklyn, US.
Barclays Center is a multipurpose venue in Brooklyn seating roughly 19,000 people for basketball games and concerts. The exterior facade consists of dark brown steel panels that curve around the building and form a circular skylight above the main entrance.
Developer Bruce Ratner began construction in 2010 as part of a larger urban development project in the Brooklyn neighborhood. The venue opened in 2012, bringing professional basketball back to Brooklyn for the first time in decades.
The building serves as home court for Brooklyn Nets basketball games and New York Liberty matches, alongside concerts by touring musicians. On game nights the surrounding streets fill with fans gathering at nearby bars and restaurants before and after events.
The building sits on Atlantic Avenue and connects directly to Atlantic Terminal, where several subway lines and the Long Island Rail Road converge. Arriving early makes it easier to navigate the busy entrance areas, especially on evenings with major events.
The weathered steel panels on the facade, designed by architecture firm SHoP, reference the traditional brownstone rowhouses common throughout Brooklyn residential streets. This deliberate connection to local building styles aims to tie the modern structure into its historic surroundings.
