Spring Valley is a village in Rockland County that spreads across the towns of Ramapo and Clarkstown. The area sits north of New York City and is accessible via Interstate 87.
The village was originally called Scotland but took its current name in 1842 when the New York & Erie Railroad opened a station there. This railroad connection shaped how the place developed.

A train station offers public transportation connections for visitors and residents. The warmer months provide the most pleasant conditions for walking around and exploring the area.
In 1885, a man made an unusual walking journey from here to Washington DC with a pig and rooster in tow. He sold postcards along the way to document his remarkable trek.
