Cheltenham Township

Cheltenham Township is an administrative division in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania featuring rolling terrain and several creeks, including Tookany Creek on its southeastern side. The landscape combines residential neighborhoods with open spaces, creating a mix of built and natural areas throughout.

The township was founded in 1682 and initially grew around mills built along Tookany Creek for local production and milling. By the late 1800s, it transformed into a suburban retreat as Philadelphia residents sought quieter neighborhoods away from the city center.

The township divides into distinct neighborhoods like Glenside and Cheltenham Village, each with its own local character and feel. Walking through these areas, you notice how the buildings, shops, and gathering spaces reflect the separate identity of each section.

The area is well connected by public transit, with SEPTA bus and train services linking to Philadelphia and surrounding communities for convenient travel. Several schools and community services are distributed throughout the neighborhoods, making it easy to access local amenities from different parts.

The Curtis Arboretum showcases a collection of trees and plants spread across its grounds within the community. Additionally, the site of Camp William Penn, which served as a Civil War training ground for soldiers, still stands and offers visitors a piece of that historical period.
