Dominator, Steel roller coaster in Doswell, Virginia, United States
Dominator is a floorless steel roller coaster at Kings Dominion amusement park in Doswell, Virginia. The track takes riders through several inversions, starting with a large vertical loop shortly after the first drop.
The coaster opened in 2000 under the name Batman Knight Flight at Six Flags Ohio. When Geauga Lake closed, it was moved to Kings Dominion in 2008, where it got its current name.
On a floorless coaster, riders sit in open cars with nothing beneath their feet, legs dangling in the air the whole time. This setup changes how the ride feels, since there is no surface below to anchor the eye or the body.
The ride is inside Kings Dominion, and wait times tend to be longest on weekends and during summer school breaks. Arriving early in the day usually means shorter lines.
Even though the coaster was built for a different park, it was taken apart and reassembled at Kings Dominion without major changes to the structure. This kind of relocation is possible with steel coasters of this type, while wooden coasters almost never move between parks.
