Dublin, Suburban municipality in Columbus metropolitan area, Ohio, United States
Dublin is a city spanning Franklin, Delaware, and Union counties in Ohio, located along the Scioto River at about 253 meters (830 feet) elevation. The municipality lies within the Columbus metropolitan area and features numerous parks and green spaces connected by an extensive trail network that shapes the local landscape.
Brothers Peter and Benjamin Sells purchased the land in 1802, and the settlement later received its name from Irish immigrant John Shields after his hometown. The construction of Interstate 270 and the arrival of corporate headquarters transformed the community from a small town into a major suburb of Columbus starting in the 1970s.
The name comes directly from the Irish capital, chosen by immigrant John Shields after his birthplace. This Irish connection remains visible through community events and the presence of Irish-American families who maintain local traditions and pass them on through generations.
The city offers over 999 acres of public parks connected by around 77 miles of bike trails, making it easy to explore on foot or by bicycle. Most green spaces remain open throughout the year and provide access to riverside paths and shaded areas for breaks during warmer months.
The population stood at just 681 residents in 1970 and grew rapidly over a few decades after major companies established offices here. This shift transformed the area from rural farmland into a modern suburban center with wide roads and business districts that now define the local character.
