Mansfield is a county seat in north-central Ohio, positioned between Columbus and Cleveland along Interstate 71. The settlement sits in the western foothills of the Allegheny Plateau, with residential neighborhoods radiating from a downtown core and farmland extending beyond the city limits.
James Hedges, Jacob Newman, and Joseph Larwill founded the settlement in 1808 near the fork of the Mohican River. Its position along trade routes and proximity to waterways encouraged growth through the 19th century.
