55 Wall Street, Bank building in Financial District, Manhattan, United States
The eight-story structure at 55 Wall Street exhibits Greek Revival architecture with two stacked colonnades of twelve Ionic columns across its granite facade.
Built between 1836 and 1842 on the site of the former Merchants' Exchange, the building served as the National City Bank headquarters from 1908 to 1961.
The structure represents the development of banking institutions in New York City, containing a banking hall with 60-foot vaulted ceilings and marble floors.
Located near subway lines in the Financial District, the building now contains 101 luxury residences managed by Cipriani and includes event spaces.
The building contains historical jail cells from its time as a customs house, used for detaining smugglers between 1863 and 1899.
