Ohio State University Radio Observatory, Radio telescope in Delaware, United States.

The Ohio State University Radio Observatory was a research facility housing a large radio telescope positioned on Ohio Wesleyan University grounds. The facility featured a rectangular reflector dish approximately 103 meters long and 33 meters wide, designed to capture radio waves from space.

The facility was built starting in 1956 under the direction of John D. Kraus and began operations in 1963. The astronomer later conducted a long-running sky survey program that searched for signals from space over many decades.

The facility recorded the unexplained Wow signal in 1977, represented as 6EQUJ5 on computer printouts, generating interest in extraterrestrial intelligence research.

The site is no longer active today and the historical facility has been dismantled. For those interested in the history of radio astronomy, visiting the area can provide context about the scientific work that once took place here.

In 1977, the facility detected an unexplained radio signal known as the Wow signal, sparking significant interest in the search for extraterrestrial life. This event remains one of the most puzzling moments in the history of sky observation.
