Creation Museum, Young Earth creationist museum in Petersburg, United States
The Creation Museum is a creationist institution in Petersburg, Kentucky, that occupies around 75,000 square feet (about 7,000 square meters) with approximately 150 exhibits displaying animatronic dinosaurs, biblical figures, and interpretations of scripture. The galleries spread across multiple levels and combine natural history elements with religious narratives.
The institution opened in 2007 after more than a decade of planning, funded through private donations to the organization Answers in Genesis. Construction cost around 27 million dollars and marked the creation of one of the first large creationist museums in North America.
The name comes from the biblical creation narrative, which visitors encounter through life-size recreations showing early humans alongside prehistoric creatures. Each gallery moves through a different biblical era, with dioramas and staged scenes that illustrate stories from Genesis.
The grounds include botanical gardens for walking, a cinema with special effects, and a small zoo with live animals. Active visitors can also try a zip line and other outdoor activities available on site.
One of the exhibits called Borderland recreates historical settings from the time of Jesus with detailed reconstructions of houses, streets, and everyday objects. This setting offers insight into daily life in the ancient Near East and complements the biblical narratives.
