DePaul University, Private Catholic university in Lincoln Park and Loop, Chicago, United States
DePaul University is a Catholic college with two main sites in Chicago, one in the residential Lincoln Park area and another in the business Loop district. Both locations sit near public transit stops and include lecture halls, laboratories, dormitories, and administrative offices.
Vincentian priests founded the institution in 1898 as Saint Vincent's College to provide education for immigrants and those in need. It adopted its current name in 1907 and grew into a college offering a broad range of subjects.
The name honors a French priest who worked with poor and sick people during the 17th century. Today many students volunteer in neighborhood projects that continue this tradition of service.
Both sites are easily reached by metro and bus, with Lincoln Park offering more green space and residential character. The Loop sits at the city center and provides quick access to shops, restaurants, and internship opportunities.
The digital media center in the Loop occupies a renovated early 20th century building with modern studios and computer labs. The library at Lincoln Park holds collections on Irish and Irish American history.
