Beaver Falls, Home rule municipality in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, United States
Beaver Falls is a home rule municipality in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. It sits on the Beaver River roughly 31 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, where several transportation routes meet.
The settlement formed in the 1850s near the middle falls under the name Brighton. The Harmony Society purchased the area in 1859 and supported further development of the town.
The name comes from the three waterfalls on the Beaver River that shape the city layout. Local shops and residential neighborhoods spread along the river valley and up the surrounding hills.
The Big Beaver Falls Area School District operates three main facilities: an elementary school, a middle school, and a high school. The education sites sit within the city limits and connect through main roadways.
In the 1870s, the city hosted 225 Chinese residents who worked at the local cutlery factory. This neighborhood formed one of the few Chinese communities in rural Pennsylvania at that time.
