Atlantic Beach, Coastal village in Nassau County, United States.
Atlantic Beach sits on Long Beach Barrier Island, with the Atlantic Ocean to the east and Reynolds Channel on the bay side. The village features a 22-foot-wide boardwalk with tennis courts, playgrounds, and private beach areas for visitors to use.
Real estate developer William Austin purchased the land in 1926 and built a bridge connecting Far Rockaway to the island in 1927. This infrastructure made settlement possible and transformed the area into a sought-after residential location.
The village developed around exclusive beach clubs that drew prominent families and later served as filming locations for television productions. These clubs remain central to how locals and visitors experience the waterfront.
The wide boardwalk provides easy access to facilities and is pleasant for walking and relaxing. Keep in mind that some beach areas are private, and certain activities are restricted to members only.
During World War II, a dedicated coastal patrol and watchtower monitored the waters for potential submarine threats. This military presence was a significant part of the village's experience during the war years.
