Levittown, Planned residential community in Bucks County, United States.
Levittown is a planned residential community with more than seventeen thousand single-family homes in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The development covers roughly seventeen square kilometers and divides into several sections with community facilities.
William Levitt and his company began building this community in 1952 using a standardized construction method with twenty-six separate steps. This approach allowed the completion of one house every sixteen minutes and shaped suburban housing across the United States.
This planned development shows a postwar design concept with straight streets, front lawns, and small yards that define each home. Many residents still maintain this original layout and use the public green spaces for neighborhood gatherings.
The area is accessible through several access roads and easy to navigate by car. A planned footpath will eventually link Mill Creek Parkway to the town center and create new crossings for walkers and cyclists.
The houses originally sold for prices between roughly nine thousand and about seventeen thousand dollars and were considered affordable for young families at the time. This pricing marked a new standard for mass-produced suburban homes in America.
