Cuban Project, Secret government program in Washington D.C., United States
Cuban Project was a covert government program designed to destabilize the Cuban regime during the Cold War. The program included sabotage operations, propaganda campaigns, and attempts to weaken the Cuban economy.
John F. Kennedy authorized its establishment in November 1961, just months after the failed Bay of Pigs landing. The government shut down the program in January 1963 following the Cuban Missile Crisis.
The program integrated various intelligence agencies, military branches, and external organizations to develop methods for changing the political direction of Cuba.
The program no longer exists as an active operation and left behind mostly archived government documents. Declassified files from this period are available at the National Archives for research purposes.
Agents developed plans ranging from harmless disruptions to more serious interventions. Some ideas involved chemical agents meant to be used during public appearances.
