The Indiana Statehouse displays Neoclassical architecture with limestone walls, grand columns, and a central dome rising above the four-story structure.
Construction of this governmental center began in 1865 under architect Edwin May and reached completion in 1888 through the work of Adolph Scherrer.
The Statehouse houses a collection of over 40 public artworks, including sculptures, bronze plaques, and a large mural depicting the Spirit of Indiana.
Visitors can participate in guided tours of the building to learn about Indiana government operations and view the legislative chambers throughout the year.
The central rotunda features an intricate pattern of Italian marble floors beneath a dome that allows natural light to illuminate the government corridors.
