Intimidator, Steel roller coaster at Carowinds, United States.
Intimidator is a steel roller coaster at Carowinds amusement park in South Carolina, extending over a 5,316-foot track with a 232-foot lift hill. The first descent angles at 74 degrees and propels the cars to 75 miles per hour (121 kilometers per hour), followed by hills and turns throughout the entire ride.
The attraction opened on March 27, 2010, as a major park expansion with a 23 million dollar budget. The original name and theme were revised in 2024 to create a neutral design.
The train design displays simple red and black cars that once recalled a famous racing vehicle. Visitors experience a racetrack-style launch where the cars accelerate through a straight dispatch zone.
Three trains with 32 seats each accommodate up to 1,600 riders per hour, with a minimum height requirement of 54 inches (137 centimeters). The ride lasts around three minutes and is best experienced in dry weather, as wet tracks can reduce speed.
Eight drops and seven camelback hills create a continuous sequence of weightless moments throughout the entire course. The steep initial descent ranks among the sharpest on hypercoasters and makes riders look almost straight down.
