Carolina Goldrusher, Steel roller coaster in Charlotte, United States
Carolina Goldrusher is a steel roller coaster at Carowinds amusement park in South Carolina, designed in the style of a mine train ride. The track winds through a series of curves, dips, and turns that keep the pace varied from start to finish.
The ride was built in 1973 by Arrow Dynamics and was one of the original attractions when Carowinds first opened its gates. It has run without interruption ever since, making it one of the park's oldest operating coasters.
The mine train theme connects to the gold mining history that shaped the Carolinas, letting riders experience a piece of regional heritage. This connection to local past gives visitors a sense of the area's economic traditions.
There is a height requirement to board, so checking in advance is helpful if traveling with younger guests. Lines tend to grow during peak hours, and arriving early in the day or on a weekday usually means a shorter wait.
In 2023, the ride received a gold-painted train to mark 50 years of operation, and that same train still runs today. It is one of the few coasters in any park where a single vehicle was repainted specifically to honor a milestone.
