Memphis Suspension Railway, Suspension railway in downtown Memphis, United States.
The Memphis Suspension Railway connects downtown Memphis to Mud Island Park through a suspended monorail system spanning one-third of a mile across the harbor.
Built with Swiss and Italian components, the suspension railway started operations in July 1982 as part of the development project linking Memphis downtown to Mud Island.
The suspension railway appeared in the 1993 film The Firm, showcasing the transportation system as an integral part of Memphis urban infrastructure.
The railway cars operated at seven miles per hour and could transport up to 180 passengers between downtown Memphis and Mud Island entertainment facilities.
The railway system features two suspended cars that run beneath a truss bridge, maintaining specific clearance requirements mandated by the U.S. Coast Guard.
